Here is a list of places where I’ve bought yarn in the past year with links to my original blog posts about the experience and purchase. Also, I have a post listing stores to purchase knitting supplies in Cork City. In each notations below, I try to include what I bought and a link to a photo of it on Flickr. It’s just one of the many little things I do to make your reading experience all the more enjoyable.
ONLINE YARN STORES
Hedgehog Fibres, Online, but based in Cork City (Ireland). Was given a hank of silk/merino in Opalite and one of pure silk in Swamp. Earthy colors, addictive textures, knowledgeable hand-dying.
Kemps Wool Shop, Online. Good deal for self-striping sock yarn and super soft bamboo.
Knit Picks, Online. I got variety pack of their yarn in a trade with Sturdy Mama who was hankering for some Irish Aran wool.
Lion Brand on Amazon.com, Online. I ordered three of their Homespun
.
IRISH YARN STORES
Cork Button Factory, Cork City (Ireland). Great place for basic acrylic, which I use paired with a self-striping yarn for baby blankets.
Cork Wools, Cork City (Ireland). Louisa Harding Fauve and Sirdar Duet for the Trench Scarf. I also got some Click and other Louisa Harding there. It’s a tempting little shop and right beside The English Market, so I’ll go in for a loaf of bread and come out with a cake of yarn too.
Double Knit, Cahersiveen (Ireland). An assortment that I’ve barely used but enjoy looking at.
Hedgehog Fibres, Online, but based in Cork City (Ireland). Was given a hank of silk/merino in Opalite and one of pure silk in Swamp. Earthy colors, addictive textures, knowledgeable hand-dying.
Kerry Wool Market, Kenmare (Ireland). Kerry Aran Weight Wool. So nice, they encouraged me to go to Spin A Yarn, but it closed before I got there.
This Is Knit, Dublin (Ireland). Rowan Lima was my birthday gift on the most recent trip and last year I got Louisa Harding Merletto. Such friendly staff and so helpful in finding the right yarn for you and your project.
Vibes & Scribes, Cork City (Ireland). Bamboo, hanks of Kilcarra Aran, acrylic, sock yarn, oatmeal-hued wool to dye, and Kilcarra. Luxurious yarns that tempt me each time I go. There’s only so much longer I can ignore the Manos de Uruguay.
Youghal Knitwear, Cork City (Ireland). Tivoli Buzz for a pullover and buttons for my nephew’s sweater. The nicest little shop and any time I’ve ever gone I can spend change or bundles and I am treated just as wonderfully.
EUROPEAN YARN STORES
El Cortes Ingles, Barcelona (Spain). A super soft acrylic was my birthday gift that day.
Phildar, Brest (France). I chose a few different yarns including a cotton blend one and a wool blend. So many yarns, so little luggage space.

Great list of resources. It looks like Cork is well served! If you get the chance, you should pop in and say hi to us in Springwools whenever you’re in Dublin next. We are nearly namesakes after all
